ALTERATIONS OF PURPOSES/MISSIONS:

On the Humantics Foundation website ( http://www.humanticsfoundation.com) the purpose of the non-profit is expressed as Breast Implants:  Recovery & Discovery

On the 1997-2001 Form 990’s the organization’s exempt purpose is listed as ‘Education, health matters’ and goes on to summarize work done regarding breast implants [Provided 24 hr /365 days online internet & telephone support.  Provided explant surgeries.]

Purposes listed in Guidestar.org for the Humantics Foundation however,  reflect the addition of ‘unrelated purposes’.  The following paragraph was added to the Humantics Foundation’s ‘mission’ statement on Guidestar.org:  “We are further committed to bringing public awareness to the importance of retaining and regaining medical freedom and the public relations campaigns to thwart this.  From doing this work on a very controversial public issue, we have also become proponents for First Amendment Rights issues.”

The addition of several new ‘missions’ and ‘purposes’:
1) medical freedom,
2) public relations campaigns and
3) First Amendment Rights
do not reflect ‘education, health matters’ 24 hr/365 days in supporting of women harmed by breast implants.  They do however reflect the personal interests of the Humantics Foundation Director.

Citing from  Public Charity - Required Provisions for Articles:
The articles of organization must limit the organization's purposes to one or more of the exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3)  And must not expressly empower it to engage, other than as an insubstantial part of its activities, in activities that are not in furtherance of one or more of those purposes.

The Humantics Foundation has engaged in substantial activity regarding the three above additional missions/purposes.  The actual ‘purpose’ of the organization in many opinions seems to become scattered at will.  (*see here ) for official foundation webpage examples of the Director’s  medical freedom, public relations campaigns,  heavy First Amendment Rights focus, personal lawsuits and personal 'Mine Enemies' webpages.  The website does focus on education, health matters (*see http://www.humanticsfoundation.com) about the breast implant issue; however, a viewer will note the many unprofessional links specifically focused on the personal life of its Director.

2006

Guidestar.org website, as of December 2006, the new categories named as the Humantics Foundation purposes are:

  • R24—Women's Rights
  • R63—Censorship, Freedom of Speech and Press Issues

    Dear Sir of Madam,
This is in response to your letter dated September 5,1998, requesting a name and address change to your organization. We have updated our records to reflect these changes.

Our records indicate that a determination letter issued in October 1964, granted your organization exemption from federal income tax under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. That letter is still in effect.

Based on information subsequently submitted, we classified your organization as one that is not a private foundation within the meaning of section 109 (s) of the Code because it is an organization described in section 509 (a) (2).

This classification was based on the assumption that your organization's operations would continue as stated in the application.  If your organization's sources of support, or its character, method of operations, or purposes have changed, please let us know so we can consider the effect of the change on the exempt status and foundation status of your organization."
